SUMMARY:2018 March Lunch - Peter Breen
DESCRIPTION:Representative Peter Breen (R-Lombard) represents the 48th Legislative House District of Illinois and has served in the General Assembly since January of 2015. His legislative district includes all or portions of Lombard\, Glen Ellyn\, Wheaton\, Lisle\, Downers Grove\, Oakbrook Terrace and Villa Park. The district is located entirely within DuPage County.\n\nIn July of 2017\, Rep. Breen was elevated to the position of House Republican Floor Leader\, where he serves the 51-member House Republican Caucus as their lead debater on all bills brought to the House Floor for discussion and debate. In addition to this role\, Rep. Breen serves on the Energy\, Financial Institutions\, Judiciary-Civil\, Labor & Commerce\, Public Utilities and Restorative Justice Committees. He is the only member of the General Assembly to hold an electrical engineering degree\, which he earned in three years from Vanderbilt University. He also holds a law degree from the University of Notre Dame.\n\nAs a legislator\, Rep. Breen has received the "Perfect Score" award from the Illinois Technology & Manufacturing Association (TMA) every year he has been in office for his votes that support the manufacturing industry. He has also been named a "Guardian of Small Business" by the Illinois branch of the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) for his voting record as it relates to protecting small businesses and the entrepreneurs who bring those jobs to Illinois. In 2017\, Rep. Breen was named a "Taxpayer Friend" for earning a 100% score on the Illinois Tax Survey compiled by Taxpayers United of America.\n\nEach year Rep. Breen files a comprehensive legislative agenda in Springfield. His legislative initiatives include bills that reduce burdensome regulations on small business\, promote economic growth\, and protect taxpayers. This July\, a Breen bill goes into effect that will save Illinois businesses and not-for-profits millions in electronic filing fees\, which are currently charged for filing state forms electronically instead of by postal mail. Last year\, Rep. Breen also drafted and passed a law inspired by Lombard's Noon Whistle Brewing to allow craft brewers the ability to use cutting edge 360-lid technology for their beer.\n\nPrior to his election to the General Assembly\, Breen served on the Lombard Village Board\, as a Trustee and as Acting Village President. He also founded and directed a local not-for-profit that served women in difficult or untimely pregnancies and their children. Outside of the House of Representatives\, Rep. Breen is a constitutional attorney for the Thomas More Society\, a not-for-profit firm specializing in defense of free speech and religious liberty rights. \n\n\n\nRep. Breen is a member of Lombard's Father Boecker Council of the Knights of Columbus and is an Eagle Scout. He and his wife Margie attend Sacred Heart Catholic Church\, where they have been parishioners for many years. They are loving parents to their son Matthew.
