About this event
‘E/Merge: Art of the Indian Diaspora’ showcases contemporary, cutting-edge works created by nine emerging Indian-American visual artists from across the United States.
Hosted by the National Indo-American Museum with major funding provided by a grant from the NEA, curated by Shaurya Kumar, chair of faculty and associate professor at SAIC.
The nine Indian American artists in this exhibition create works of art that shed light on notions of origins, narratives of dispersal, and cultural difference under the conditions of globalism.
They travel through multiple narratives of different nations and feel at home in the world, moving in relation to and often beyond their transnational roots.

Keen observers of frameworks, they look at the world through a kaleidoscopic lens and employ diverse sets of tools, media, techniques, and processes including print, drawing, sculpture, video, photography, performance, and installation. Their works are neither structured around nor resistant to their diasporic origins. They can be viewed as fluid, multi-local and transient, working through a liberated space that they constantly shape and reshape.

The nine artists whose works appear in the exhibition are:
  • Avantika Bawa
  • Kaveri Raina
  • Kuldeep Singh
  • Kushala Vora
  • Nandita Raman
  • Neha Vedpathak
