Historical Society Benefit Hosts Astronaut Dan Tani
On November 20 at Harry Caray’s Ballroom at the Westin Hotel in Lombard, the Lombard Historical Society will hold a silent auction fundraiser entitled “Voices from the Archive.” At the event, noteworthy Lombardians from the present and past will appear including our special guest that evening, NASA Astronaut and Lombard native Daniel Tani.
All are welcome to attend this benefit and participants will enjoy food and drink, music, silent auctions and raffles, and mingle with costumed personalities from Lombard’s past. Little Orphan Annie, Lilacia Park benefactor Col. Plum, folk artist and abolitionist Sheldon Peck, suffragette Ellen Martin, and TV personality Morris the Cat are just some of the “voices from the archive” that will attend.
The proceeds of the event will benefit the Carriage House Improvement Project which will expand the exhibit and program space at 23 W. Maple and make the site accessible to people in wheelchairs and walkers. The Society is embarking on a capital campaign this fall to finance a portion of the construction project. The project was made possible by a $70,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Capital Facilities Improvement grant program.
The event takes place Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 5:30-9pm and tickets are $50 per person. For more information or to purchase a ticket for the event, please contact 630-629-1885 or visit us on our website at www.lombardhistory.org.
